What We’ve Done

SGP provides facilities management services to the Newham Schools PPP project in London. A project comprising two primary and one secondary school, with both new and refurbished buildings.

The best way of ensuring any project runs smoothly is to involve all stakeholders throughout the process. This approach at Newham ensured that everyone felt able to participate and allowed us to gain a thorough understanding of all issues and concerns.

User group meetings were set up to establish two-way communication. They gave headteachers, teachers and support staff a forum to discuss issues they may have with the building or the services they were to be receiving. These have continued since the construction phase. The meetings also allow us to communicate any upcoming issues and how we are working with the schools to minimise any impact.

SGP is responsible for all hard and soft services across the three schools and provides project management support as required.

The PPP project in Newham was designed to provide facilities that would be a resource for the whole community. We have worked with Newham Council and the schools to help promote and make their facilities available for community activities throughout weekday evenings.

As a property and facilities management company, SGP is able to call on specific resources as and when required. Our projects team recently managed an extension project from feasibility through to construction and handover. The new space is enabling one of the schools to provide wrap around care for babies and children up to the age of 11. This project helps to meet the combined health and educational needs for children and parents in a joined up way and enhance community usage of the modern facilities.
