HM Treasury

Image of As part of Exchequer Partnership, SGP Property & Facilities Management provides a range of services to the refurbished building known as Government Offices Great George Street (GOGGS) Westminster. The building is now occupied by HM Treasury and HM Revenue & Customs.

A high profile PPP project, the one million sq ft building, originally completed in 1912, was re-designed by the architects Foster and Partners to bring it up to date. Completed in two phases, the refurbishment saw the removal of 16 miles of corridor, the opening up of unused lightwells and the installation of 435 miles of cable. All within the parameters of Grade II listing.

The finished project created 25% more useable space and now houses more than 5000 staff. The building offers a mix of modern open plan and team working spaces, meeting rooms and alternative workspaces. State of the art conferencing facilities, a library, an open learning centre, restaurant and gym were also included.

The 1st phase opened in 2002 and was hailed by then Chancellor Gordon Brown MP as an example of how future PPP projects should be run. It has over the years won several awards for build and design. As the facilities management company, SGP is responsible for:
  • Soft facilities management and helpdesk for hard and soft services
  • Cleaning and window cleaning
  • Catering, vending & hospitality
  • Security and reception
  • Event management
  • Conference room management
  • Waste management
SGP worked closely with Exchequer Partnership and HMT in their attainment of ISO14001 certification and in achieving the number one spot in the league table of sustainable government departments. A drive to continuously improve has led to recycling targets exceeded and the introduction of filtered water has removed the need for bottled water, reducing both cost and carbon footprint. Utilities and energy efficiency, staff travel plans and building operating practices continue to be revised and updated to realise further gains in the department’s sustainability credentials.
